Our Founder’s Story

Motherhood is often romanticized as a journey of love and grace, but for many women, it can quickly become a silent struggle they hardly know how to put into words. Brittany’s story is one of countless mothers who normalize the overwhelming challenges of motherhood, so consumed by the demands of parenting that they lose sight of their own well-being.

After a traumatic birth with her first born, Brittany, like any new mother, was finding her way through the sleepless nights, awkward postpartum body, and feeding schedules. She appeared to be functioning—she seemed “strong” and “capable”—but beneath the surface, she was overwhelmed. Her mental health was in the background silently declining. Like so many moms, she didn’t realize the toll it was taking on her, let alone the quiet impact it was having on her baby.

Her son, once thriving, stopped gaining weight. Because Brittany appeared to be “functioning” as a mother, she and the medical system assumed her son’s condition was a simple dietary issue, failing to see the deeper connection to undiagnosed postpartum depression (PPD). Consumed with guilt and left to navigate this alone, Brittany, like so many mothers, had no idea that her mental health was directly influencing her baby’s well-being. It was only later, through research, that she learned how profoundly maternal mental health shapes a child’s development.

This is the silent epidemic of maternal mental health. Women normalize the difficulty of motherhood, brushing off their struggles as part of the job, while their pain goes unseen and untreated. Friends, family, and even healthcare systems often miss the signs, leaving mothers to carry the weight alone. It’s time to change the narrative.

Brittany’s experience became the foundation for Strategies for Moms, a mission-driven platform to bring maternal mental health out of the shadows. At the heart of this platform is the Tap In Not Out framework, which began as Brittany’s personal lifeline during her most challenging moments which she discussed in her book Tap In Not Out. Over time, it evolved into a science-backed system designed to help mothers manage mental overload in real time. Strategies for Moms builds on this foundation, transforming it into more than just a resource—it’s a movement. By normalizing conversations about maternal mental health, offering early-detection tools, and delivering practical, culturally resonant solutions, Strategies for Moms meets mothers where they are and empowers them to thrive.

This is about more than awareness—it’s about action. Brittany is determined to reach the 75% of mothers who go untreated for postpartum depression each year, ensuring no mom feels invisible, unsupported, or unaware of her own well-being. Because when mothers receive the care they need, the ripple effects transform not just their lives, but the lives of their children, their families, and future generations.

Brittany’s story is a testament to the resilience of mothers, but it’s also a call to action. We need better systems, better conversations, and better solutions. Through Strategies for Moms, Brittany is rewriting the maternal mental health narrative, proving that with the right support, we can create a future where every mom—and every family—can thrive.
